POPIA PRIVACY NOTICE

How ONmoney processes personal information

This Privacy Policy applies when you use the ONmoney website, contact us, submit an enquiry, interact with our communications or use a service that links to this policy.

1. Who is responsible for your information?

ONmoney.co.za (Pty) Ltd is the responsible party for personal information that it determines how and why to process. A third-party product provider may act as a separate responsible party for information it receives and processes under its own privacy notice.

2. Information we may collect

Depending on the service, we may collect:

  • identity and contact details, including name, telephone number, email address and South African identity information;
  • financial, employment, income, debt, credit or affordability information;
  • vehicle, property, household, health, insurance or product-preference information;
  • enquiry, application, support and communication records;
  • technical information such as IP address, browser, device, referral source and website activity; and
  • consent, marketing preference and cookie-choice records.

3. Where information comes from

We collect information directly from you, from your authorised representative, through website forms and communications, from qualifying providers and principals, and from lawful verification, fraud-prevention, credit-bureau or public sources where relevant and permitted.

4. Why we process information

We may process personal information to:

  • respond to enquiries and match you with potentially suitable providers;
  • facilitate applications, quotations, identity checks, affordability or underwriting processes;
  • communicate with you and provide support;
  • operate, secure, troubleshoot and improve the website and services;
  • prevent fraud, misuse and security incidents;
  • keep records and comply with legal, regulatory and contractual obligations; and
  • send marketing where consent or another lawful basis permits it.

5. Lawful processing

We process information where consent has been given, where processing is necessary to take steps at your request, to perform an agreement, to comply with law, or where a legitimate interest applies and does not unjustifiably interfere with your privacy. Where special personal information is processed, an additional lawful ground must apply.

6. Sharing with providers and service partners

We may share relevant information with qualifying banks, lenders, insurers, financial-service providers and their authorised operators so they can assess or respond to your enquiry. We may also use technology, hosting, communication, analytics, verification, fraud-prevention, credit-bureau, professional and compliance service providers.

We do not sell personal information as a standalone commodity. Each recipient must process information for an authorised purpose and under applicable law.

7. Credit and other checks

Where a selected product requires it and the law permits, a provider or authorised party may perform credit, identity, fraud-prevention, affordability or underwriting checks. The responsible party conducting the check must have an appropriate lawful basis and provide applicable disclosures.

8. Direct marketing and communications

We may contact you about the enquiry you submitted. Separate marketing communications are sent only where permitted. You may opt out using the unsubscribe method in a message or by contacting us. Opting out of marketing does not prevent necessary service or application communications.

9. Cookies and analytics

We use cookies and similar technologies for essential website functions and, where permitted, preferences, measurement and marketing. More information and available controls are set out in our Cookie Policy.

10. Cross-border processing

Some service providers may process information outside South Africa. Where this happens, we take reasonable steps to use a permitted transfer mechanism and require appropriate protection consistent with POPIA.

11. Retention

We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose collected, legal or regulatory retention periods, dispute resolution, fraud prevention and legitimate operational requirements. Information is then securely deleted, destroyed or de-identified where appropriate.

12. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect personal information against loss, unauthorised access, misuse, alteration or disclosure. No internet service is completely risk-free. Where a reportable security compromise occurs, notifications will be handled as required by POPIA.

13. Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you may ask whether we hold your personal information, request access, correction or deletion, object to certain processing, withdraw consent where consent is the basis, or complain about our processing. Identity verification may be required before a request is completed.

You may also lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa).

14. Children, updates and contact

Our services are intended for adults. We do not knowingly invite children to submit financial-product enquiries without appropriate authorisation.

We may update this policy when our services or legal obligations change. The current version and effective date will appear on this page.
